Single Stick Drills

Single Stick Drills was originally published in 1920 by American Sports Publishing is was part of Spalding's "Red Cover Series" of Athletic Handbooks, which at the time covered various athletic activities, such as baseball, wrestling, fencing, etc. Along with illustrations the techniques described in this book cross over from fencing to traditional martial arts stick fighting like escrima and jo techniques. As described in the book itself: . . . "These exercises with the single stick are not designed for competition, nor is any special system extolled, but rather for class work and exhibition purposes. As a piece of light apparatus it is inexpensive and any number of pupils may participate. . .
